The mid point between the summer and winter solstice is almost upon us. This is the day when the hours of day and night are the same all over the world and in the Northern Hemisphere it is the time of thanksgiving for the harvest we have gathered in preparation for the darker more wintry months ahead . It is a time of balance and also a time when we take stock of the inner harvest we have reaped from our work over the spring and summer months. These festivals were celebrated with a reverence and honouring of the turning of the seasons, the cycles of birth and death and the sacredness of all life.
This time of balance is also a time of union and of reconciling opposites and I see no greater calling for this than in the polarities that currently exist between men and women.
Patriarchy is responsible for so many generations of abuse, mistrust and pain that has been inflicted on woman. And the result of men not being in alignment with their true selves has had a massive detrimental health on their psyche too. So we find ourselves in a sort of stand-off where men and women are aware of the need for union and balance but in order to attain this there are generations of distorted ideas, beliefs, conditioning, grief and pain to be transformed and healed. There is a vast wasteland of shadow ground to be traversed in order to find our way back into each other’s arms with deep forgiveness, compassion and love for ourselves and each other. And this can perhaps be done in a moment too!
How many lives have I lived as a woman and was wronged by man? How many lives have I lived as a man and have wronged woman? It’s time to lay the past to rest.
When we see from our higher selves we remember that it doesn’t matter so much which body we are in now; that of a man or a woman. I don’t mean to belittle any trauma that anyone has experienced. I deal with my own shame and guilt for being a man and have shed plenty of tears for the atrocities that have and continue to be inflicted on women and children. But we have all suffered enough and it is time for forgiveness and peace. We were all lost and we are all wounded and at the same time we are eternal souls, we are glowing beacons of love and light. I don’t believe that any of the wounds I have suffered in any life time can tarnish the Love that is at the centre of my being.
We are the generation that is being asked to do this work. We are the voice that shouts out, like Gandalf the wizard in Lord of the Rings “Thou shalt not pass!”
‘I will not pass this wounded psyche onto my children or the generations to come.’
And so we do our work. We look inside and we reconcile the wounded masculine and feminine parts of ourselves. We feel what we never thought we would be able to feel. We find that we are more alive than we thought possible, once the healing flames have burnt away the pain which we carried for so long.
So perhaps as the autumn equinox arrives with its reminder about balance and union and reconciling opposites we might take a moment to look inside so that we can take one more step towards the marriage of masculine and feminine within each of our hearts. We embrace both energies and know that with increasing inner balance we see through a cleaner lens of our loving hearts in the present moment.
‘We are the ones we have been waiting for’. ‘We walk each other home’. We are the fulcrum to hold balance and bring union to a world that is much in need of this. When the two become One…
Autumn Equinox Blessings of Love, Union and Balance to One and all.
